A blog post written by a band of freemasons in the east midlands.
1. physical music won’t be a thing anymore.
Already the music industry has changed a lot, the stranger things effect has driven vinyl music sales by 80% in 2018/19. Vinyl is still very popular and going strong particularly with 80’s & 90’s classics like some of the music we play. However having said that 70% of the industry is still run by online music sales, which in turn will only grow in the future. It’s very similar to the blockbuster effect where eventually the online world has dominated video streaming services with the likes of Netlflix & Amazon Prime. We still love vinyl and it would be a shame to see it go but what do you think will happen with Vinyl or CD’s in 10 years?
2. Record labels will be a thing of the past
The primary function of record labels are to promote artist or bands to a fanbase. However with the growing rates of social media sites, undiscovered artists are finding they can create an audience without the need for record labels. Even with sites like Tunecore it is allowing artists to have a DIY approach to there own marketing. What’s your opinion on promoting yourself through social media? We are finding it difficult because we didn’t growup with it and have had to ask for advice off our young ones!
3. VR will play a part in concerts
VR will start to play a big part in the concert/festival industry and that’s simply because not everyone has the ways or means of travelling across countries to view their favourite bands. With COVID regulations artists have had to start getting even more creative, by continuing the experience for fans globally, this pandemic has taught us a lot and who knows maybe in the future we will be the first Freemason band in east midlands that creates VR shows?
4. AUTOMATION WILL BE USED IN THE SONGWRITING PROCESS
After a 2016 study conducted by sony they created an A.I inspired Beatles song, this is one of the scarier developments because it takes the whole emotion out of writing songs what do you think? innovation or too far Sony? In another light it could create nostalgic emotional experiences for people who want to hear there favourite late bands creating new music.
5. Fans will soundtrack there own tv SHOWS
Have you ever been watching a Netflix show and thought “I would love the band of brothers to be in the background of this cutscene”. Well luckily Netflix might be making that a possibility for you! You will be able to pick your own soundtrack to your favourite shows, all this technology talk is making me feel a little behind in times.
Regardless of the advancements in technology, The band of brothers will still blast out everyones favourite 80’s classics!
